School Programs
Like learning to read and write, healthy lifestyle habits need to be
taught. Teaching children to eat healthy foods, to participate in some
physical activity, to understand how their body works and why they
should look after themselves, is essential in today’s modern society.
The statistics for childhood obesity and long-term lifestyle disease
are staggering.
At Acacia Health we have developed a series of programs designed to
encourage children and teenagers of all ages and fitness levels, to get
involved and get active. Our main goal is for students of school age to
love activity and not feel as if going for a walk or run is a chore.
Our programs are therefore not only designed to be fun but are also
sensible well thought-out and appropriate to developing well rounded,
happy and fit students.
The three programs that we offer at schools are each outlined below. These three programs include:
Whilst our programs have been developed specifically with students in
mind, staff have often become involved for their own health and
well-being.
Extensive details regarding each of these programs are provided below
Sport-Specific Strength and Conditioning Programs
Strength
and conditioning programs offered are sport specific and designed to
meet the needs and goals of athletes’ involved. A periodised program is
developed that encompasses all areas deemed essential in achieving
athletic and sporting goals including:
- Aerobic fitness training
- Anaerobic conditioning
- Strength training
- Exercises to improve agility, muscle balance, speed and flexibility
- Prehabilitation (injury prevention)
- Rehabilitation
- Nutrition
- Fitness testing (as required)
Acacia Health prides itself on having been involved in strength and
conditioning programs for a number of top Melbourne private schools and
sporting clubs, with outstanding results being achieved by athletes
involved in these programs. In particular sports we have worked with
include but are not limited to:
- Rowing
- Snow sports
- Triathlon
- Cross country and athletics
- Netball
When?
Sessions can be arranged on days and times that best fit in with other training sessions for the sport in question.
How long?
Sessions generally run for one-hour, however this can be adapted to suit the training requirements of athletes involved.

Run with Purpose
Run with purpose is a goal orientated running program with definite start and end dates. This program includes:
- A chosen running event to train towards
- 1-2 group training runs per week
- A complete training program for all those involved
Our run groups go beyond simply offering a scheduled day and time to
meet and have a run. We believe to keep students focused and motivated,
a specific goal is the essential ingredient. Choosing a running event
gives the group a common goal to work towards. The social interaction
in an outdoor setting is guaranteed to be a positive experience for
all. There are numerous and varied fun-run events on the Victorian
calendar or your school may have a particular event in mind that you
wish to aim towards. Our programs run for a period of 10-12 weeks in
order to gain the required fitness to complete the event.
Who?
We encourage pupils and staff members of all fitness levels to
participate. Should running be an incomprehensible challenge for some,
we encourage these individuals to join in and walk or do a walk/run
combination as an alternative. This allows for everyone to become
involved. Entering an event as a school is a highlight for everyone,
creating a sense of team and profiling the school in a positive light.
Run groups are a great way to get outdoors and fit in a relatively
short period.
When?
Sessions can be arranged at a time that best suit those involved.
How long?
All group training sessions run for one-hour & include a comprehensive warm-up & cool down.

Pilates sessions
Our
Pilates sessions are a fine balance of stretching and strengthening
exercises. Pilates specifically targets postural muscles. These muscles
are under tremendous strain during school-aged years. It is one of the
safest workouts available for all ages and fitness levels.
How?
Pilates sessions may be included into your school in various ways including:
- Sessions run as part of the Physical education program for a particular year level
- Sessions run as part of a strength and conditioning program for a particular sport e.g. rowing, athletics etc
- Before or after school sessions may be included for staff and pupils as part of an extra curricula program
Who?
Pilates is an exercise system designed for everyone! Each exercise can
be modified to suit the individual. We encourage everyone to give
Pilates a go.
How long?
All sessions run for 45-minutes
Where?
Sessions require either a carpeted area large enough to fit the number
of individuals participating in the program or if a wooden floored room
is available, mats will be required.
